Build the Clapping Monkey Bot

For this entire step, make sure you’re paying attention to the orientation of the board and placement of all of the parts!

1. Make a triangle out of two 4-hole metal frames and bolt a short standoff to the top angle. Bolt the bottom of the triangle to an upper corner of the blueboard. For the metal frame that’s actually on the corner, use a short standoff instead of a nut to secure the bolt.
2. Repeat step 1 so you have 2 triangles on the blueboard. It should look a little like cat ears!
3. Bolt two short L-frames right next to each other in the center of the blueboard. The edges that are sticking up should be facing the bottom of the blueboard.
4. Bolt a long L-frame to either side of the two short L-frames. The long L-frames should be positioned so there is one hole over the edge of the blueboard with the L-frames sticking out over the bottom.
5. Bolt two short L-frames next to one of the long L-frames. They should be facing each other.
6. Repeat step 5 with the other long L-frame.

1. Bolt the bottom motor casing to the short L-frames in the center of the blueboard.
2. Bolt a short L-frame to each short L-frame on the bottom of the blueboard. The new L-frames should be able to move easily, so don’t fasten the bolts too tightly!

1. Use long bolts and nylon nuts to attach two 7-hole metal frames to a horn bracket. Make sure the metal frames are angled correctly and do not cover the horn bracket’s center hole!
2. Bolt a short L-frame to the end of each 7-hole metal frame with nylon nuts. The ends of the short L-frames should be pointing down.
3. Use a black screw to fasten the horn bracket to the motor. The metal frames and short L-frames should be pointing down.

1. Bolt two short standoffs to the end of a 10-hole metal frame.
2. Remember those short L-frames you attached allllll the way back in Step 2: Add the motor? Swing one up so it’s parallel to the short L-frame attached to the horn bracket.
3. Fasten the 10-hole metal frame to the short L-frames using short standoffs to secure the bolts. The end with the two short standoffs should be sticking up in the air.
4. Attach another 10-hole metal frame to the new short standoffs and secure them with two long standoffs.

Good news: this step is just a mirror of the last step!

Bad news: you might have to go back and look at the instructions again.

1. Bolt the center of a blueboard to each set of long standoffs.
2. Bolt the battery box to the two long L-frames on the bottom of the first blueboard.

1. Bolt two short standoffs to the Smart Inventor board. Pay attention to placement!
2. Bolt a blueboard to the short standoffs you just attached.
3. Bolt the blueboard with the Smart Inventor board to the short L-frames close to the top of the first blueboard.

1. Remove the black rubber from the wheels.
2. Remember the triangles you made back in Step 1: Build the body? Bolt the wheels to the short standoffs attached to those triangles.

You’re done! To wire your Clapping Monkey Bot properly, make sure the Smart Inventor Board is facing you:

• The motor on your right is M1.
• The motor on your left is M2.
• Attach the motors to their respective spots on the Smart Inventor Board (M1, M2, M3, and M4 are all marked).
• Make sure that the red wires are the in the negative position (facing the inside) and that the black wires are in the positive position (facing the outside)!
