2.5: Face Detection

Similar to detecting QR codes or signs, in order to detect a face you must take a picture using Zumi’s camera functions. Drag the following blocks into your workspace to set up the camera and take an image. Make sure to save the image in a variable so that it can be used later on.

After taking an image and storing it in a variable, use the find face block to detect any faces in the picture that you just saved. If a face is detected, the block will return a true boolean and create a rectangle around the detected face in the image. Try it using the code example below!

Try running the code and point Zumi’s camera at your face. Note that it might take some time for Zumi to take and display an image.

With this lesson, you have learned how to detect faces in images using Zumi’s camera! Face detection can be used for a variety of things, such as alerting Zumi to when a person is in front of her or running a piece of code when a face is detected.
